Catalonia Living Lab initiative launched at ITS World Congress in Montréal
An ITS World Congress or an ITS European Congress is organized every year. The ITS World Congress rotates between Europe, the Asia Pacific region and the Americas, returning to Europe every three years.
The Congresses provide the ideal opportunity for all stakeholders to come together, discuss and make the necessary contacts to move initiatives forward and to develop their business by exhibiting and demonstrating state of the art ITS solutions.
The ITS Congresses consist of three main areas: congress program sessions and presentations, demonstrations and an exhibition. Participating in these three areas offers a unique opportunity to show and explain the latest technologies and services, with a slightly different focus for each.
The Catalonia Living Lab initiative for connected and automated driving is launched at the ITS World Congress 2017 in Montréal.
Catalonia offers one of the best places in Europe for the development of connected and automated vehicles thanks to its legal framework for public road testing, availability of the most demanding road scenarios, stable and mild weather conditions, and the commitment of the industry and the public administration.
Catalonia Living Lab currently counts with 7 routes and 7 urban areas open to general traffic, and 3 proving grounds. Customized routes and areas can also be provided to fulfil the industry needs. A legal directive specifies the requirements to obtain special authorizations and the Government of Catalonia provides a one-stop-shop to ease the admittance procedure.
